by Darryl Ray Easter, Kern Valley State Prison
Shackles on my feet,
Held to stand for long ago criminal plans,
Blind to living without no sense of direction,
Wrong by first impression,
Held to jurisdiction discretion,
Gavel weighed down by judicial leverage.
Awoken from this daydream by confinements,
Torments of so much time loss to life,
Clocks broken now my hope re-opened,
What lies ahead of my vision to amend,
For what sin did lend…
Personally grown to know life is so precious,
Chances taken in hopes of being my best,
Rehabilitation sets heavily upon me now,
Knowing it’s my time to lead this life,
That only progress with my success,
At living up to a second chance,
Freedom arises and doubt demises,
Set in stone the world evolves alone,
Man held accountable for their actions,
Behind the image of the mirror,
Reflects the mirage of truth…
